How to Judge Cannabis Flower Quality

Look, smell, feel, burn, the four-sensory test.

Cannabis flower quality is assessed by density, trichome coverage, terpene aroma, moisture content, and ash color when combusted. Cannabis Cured flower is hand-trimmed, ten-day cured, and lab-tested before retail.

Look

Dense, well-structured buds with visible trichome coverage. Saturated color, bright greens, deep purples, fiery pistils. Avoid dry, brown, or over-handled flower.

Smell

Fresh, pungent, and complex. If you can't smell it through the jar, it wasn't cured properly. Our ten-day cure is why Northern Grown buds hit you before the lid's off.

Feel and burn

Slightly sticky, springy, not crumbly, not wet. Ash should be light gray to white. Black ash means it wasn't flushed properly before harvest.

Frequently asked

What does 'hand-trimmed' actually mean?

Every Northern Grown SKU is trimmed by hand, not by machine. Machines beat the trichomes off the flower. Hands preserve them.

What's the 10-day cure for?

Curing dries the buds slowly and evenly, preserving terpenes and converting chlorophyll. Ten days is our floor; many cultivars cure longer.
